Mark your calendars: Mid March 2010 (UPDATED)
One of the more reliable sources out there has recently picked something up on the radar: *something* will be announced somewhere in the middle of next month, perhaps biased a little towards the end, but nevertheless, something. *Something* because it is currently unknown what exactly it will be, but I’m sure many of us are all hoping it will be the some things we’ve been waiting for, huh?
Nope, don’t look at the categories I’ve listed below as hints I know something you all don’t – it’s just wishful thinking because my guess is as good as your’s. The time of month has been confirmed (mid-end March), but announcement/event is unknown. So remember to take some time off this weekend to do the lucky dance and hope it’s the new Elitebooks and/or ATI graphics options.
UPDATE: In case you were thinking the Feb 28/March 1 announcement of the Elitebook 2540p and 2740p and updated Probook models were “IT”, you’re wrong. Expect another round of announcements in March. So this time we can narrow things down to either the flagship Elitebook 8740w with Dream Color 2, the new Envy 14 and Envy 17, new Pavilion notebooks, one or more of the above, or something completely different (remote possibility: HP Slate pricing and availability?). And the speculation goes on….

ATI options!!! yeahhh!!!!!
no, since its an anouncement, its gonna be a new model, eg. elitebook 8740 or envy 17/14.
but i still want that high-end mobility radeon on the 8540p, as well as a HDMI port! or a confirmation that the firepro 5800 is really based on the radeon 5800s! then the 8540w is the notebook of choice, with monthly driver-tweaking in order to have it work as a radeon.

@necrophyte:
What’s the advantage of an ATI FirePro card over a nVIDIA Quadro card? Which is better (in terms of raw performance)? I believed the FX3800M card was the best one the money can buy… Since both cards are for workstations (serious works, not games), is the DirectX 11 support on the new ATI M5800 card well worth instead the FX3800M (DX10)?
In my case, I’m not interested in battery life, but pure performance (I plan to use the laptop plugged to an outlet).
Thank you in advance

well, i dont know exactly, since that gpu isnt released yet, neither are its specs. but if its really based on the radeon 5800 series, its gonna be very powerful (especially if its a GDDR5 model), and dx11 is definitely an advantage. however, im not sure how important this for CAD etc. is, unless you really develop something with dx11 features.
but all the cumputational features provided by dx11 with dx11 hardware (and vista/7 of course) seem very attractive for serious works, i would say.
lets wait for the specs, then i can say it for sure. i personally would use the firepro 5800 as a radeon for gaming mainly, if its still possible to tweak the drivers in order to make it work as a radeon, but since its professional work what its meant for, its definitely gonna be good at it (especially if really based on the radeon 5800s).

I can’t understand why people want HDMI ports on the business notebooks.. I mean for home consumers its okay… for connect their laptops very easy to a TV… but why don’t use DisplayPort which is not limited?
