HP names new WebOS leader

HP has named Stephen DeWitt, their previous head for their Americas’ Personal Systems Group and now new leader of HP’s WebOS global business unit. He replaces Jon Rubinstein, who will now take the role of Senior VP of Global Innovation for their PSG team.

It will certainly be interesting to see the direction that he takes the WebOS ecosystem after that rumored 7 inch TouchPad variant comes out next month… hopefully we’ll see a true flagship WebOS device (dual core, 4 inch and above screen) one day.

Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard on sale!

Now, you have to forgive me and my recent slight obsession with keyboards: I’ve been on the hunt for a good keyboard that rivals the experience of my EliteBook’s built-in keyboard for use at home with the HP ZR24w monitor. I somehow love the EliteBook 2530p’s keyboard so much that I’ve been using it with the monitor… but I would prefer to have a standalone keyboard if I could.

I was looking through my inbox this morning and saw that Amazon has put the Logitech K750 Wireless Solar Keyboard on sale at 47 bucks for just today! There are no taxes (which always delights me), shipping is free and well, I’m thinking of picking this one up and see how things go (though I would honestly rejoice if they made a “no numberpad” version of the keyboard… but there are just so few keyboards sans numberpads out there which are full-size). Thought I’d put this up for anyone else looking for a wireless keyboard for their tables, it is after all a one-day only affair and a whole $10 cheaper than the next lowest price! Go check it out now before the offer disappears at the end of today!

Fun stuff: Amazon selling HP mouse for price of BMW

Fun stuff: Amazon selling HP mouse for price of BMW

And I wish I even had a car in the first place… here comes someone who made a huge typo on a HP Wireless Mouse’s price tag: the little critter is listed for a cool $34,072 on Amazon, just a couple of bucks short of the base price for an entry-level BMW 3 series sedan! And then there’s more good news and bad news… [sarcasm alert!] Good news is that it comes with free shipping, which should be expected for the price of this mouse; but the bad news is this mouse, that will complement your “I Am Rich” app on your smartphone perfectly, is temporarily out of stock.

Report: HP to make some notebooks in Japan

Japanese publication The Nikkei is reporting this morning that HP plans to move part of its notebook production to Japan, from China, over the next couple of months. The report mentions that equivalent labor costs in Japan is about four times that of China, but there will be efficiency gains as a result along with that respectable ‘Made in Japan’ underneath your notebook and delivery times slashed from 10 down to 5 business days. According to The Nikkei, HP also plans to keep prices the same by using existing production lines and its global purchase network.

No word on exact dates of this move or official confirmation from HP so far, neither is there any information at the moment on which notebook models exactly will be made in Japan*.

*Though we’re guessing, if this report turns out to be correct, that since this move will take a couple of months, that 2012′s upper-tier notebooks (perhaps the 2012 EliteBook Mobile Workstation series, like 8470w, 8570w and 8770w? And 2012 HP Envy models…) are likely candidates… that, and we can’t imagine HP pumping out Mini netbooks and sub-$500 g-series notebooks from Japan.

HP launches prepaid 3G DataPass with Sprint

Along with the new ProBook 5330m, EliteBook 2560p and 2760p and consumer laptops this morning, HP also announced a service called ‘DataPass’. HP DataPass is a service with Sprint involved that allows you to buy contract-free, prepaid Internet data access. HP is quoting a price range of $5 for 75 MB up to $30 for 1 GB of data usage, and mentions this will work on any of their laptop models equipped with Qualcomm Gobi un2400.
