HP Envy 15 appears again in Lady Gaga music video: Telephone with Beyonce

Today is the premiere day of Lady Gaga’s new music video + mini-drama (is that the word?) combo for her single “Telephone” featuring Beyonce, as you might have already noticed if you saw “Lady Gaga” and “Telephone” popping up as two of Twitter’s top trending topics several hours ago, or around the net. I would’ve posted this earlier had I not been busy completing my review of the HP Elitebook 8440p and another notebook.

And look what we have here… the HP Envy 15 Beats Edition (which, oddly, seems to have disappeared from HP’s website… hmmmm? I wonder why) makes another appearance in yet another Lady Gaga music video (a troop of Envy 15′s first appeared in “Bad Romance“)!

In “Telephone”, the HP Envy 15 Beats Edition appears for roughly 5 seconds in between 4:23 and 4:28 when Lady Gaga is bailed out of jail and a police officer, slacking on the job, is seen using the notebook to surf the net. See that big red Beats logo in the center… and also the small silver HP logo to the bottom left side of the notebook?

The camera zooms into the screen of the HP Envy 15 Beats Edition at around 4:27, showing some dating website the old lady is visiting. Okay… Moving on… While the “dating website” is obviously some fictional site oops, turns out even the dating website is real and part of product placement in this almost-ad-filled music video (thanks, Robert!)… we can also spot other things in the HP Envy 15′s screen in Lady Gaga’s music video; notably using Windows 7 (and the default Windows 7 background) and Mozilla Firefox!

Oh, and before you skip off to watch “Telephone” by Lady Gaga, and featuring Beyonce, two things you have to keep in mind are… One, not recommended for kids to watch it (if you read gossip and celebrity tabloids and the news in general, you’d probably understand why Lady Gaga is a somewhat controversial woman) and two, the music video is filled with product placements from various companies/brands scattered throughout its nine-and-a-half minute length… which might actually scare people because of the sheer amount of product placement in the video is the most I’ve ever seen in a music video.

So I had meant to post this ages ago but due to a combination of Christmas, lots of HP notebook rumors this month and other things that take precedence in terms of priority, I’m only posting this now. Four HP Envy 15 Beats edition notebooks were recently featured in Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance single video.

The Core i7 Mobile packing, ATI Mobility Radeon 4830 blazing luxury/premium notebooks had about three seconds (2:44 to 2:46) of screen time. The Beats by Dr Dre headphones also made its appearance, draped on the third Envy 15 Beats notebook in the video at 2:44. This same pair of headphones is part of the “limited edition” HP Envy 15 Beats package.

Compared to the “regular” HP Envy 15, the Envy 15 Beats Edition is essentially the same notebook inside with “Beats” branding, black casing design (regular Envy is silver/beige-ish) and includes the mentioned Beats by Dr Dre headphones and Traktor DJ software for… well, DJ’s to do their thing with music tracks.

Oh, before you rush out there to place your order for one “just because Lady Gaga has four”, the Envy 15 Beats Edition also gets a $500 price premium slapped on top of the price of a regular Envy. Food for thought. Okay, given not everyone’s a fan of Lady Gaga, at least you can relate to playing games like Left4Dead on full HD/max everything at 60 FPS on HP’s slimmest Core i7 notebook. Right? Have a great New Year’s eve folks!

HP Touchsmart featured in Black Eyed Peas video

HP Touchsmart featured in Black Eyed Peas video

The Black Eyed Peas recently featured the HP Touchsmart in their latest music video “Boom Boom Pow”. The HP Touchsmart appears three times in the music video – at the very beginning, the end and somewhere in the middle of the video. And not just ANY HP Touchsmart – it’s a HP Touchsmart with a super-sized HP logo!! (and a plus-size screen? Read on for speculation)

Compare that to this closeup taken of a ‘normal’ HP Touchsmart:

HP Touchsmart featured in Black Eyed Peas videoCheck out the proportions of the logo and it sure makes a huge difference (no pun intended).

There are three plausible explanations:

  • HP Touchsmart “product placement edition” with bigger HP logos for appearances in music videos, TV shows and movies
  • HP is introducing a slight cosmetic change to normal, retail Touchsmarts this summer (because someone thought the logo was too small)… and the BEP were the first to get their hands on one
  • A new HP Touchsmart all-in-one model is coming (See why below)

I put my arm/hand up to my friend’s HP Touchsmart in the same manner as in the video above and my upper arm covers almost 60-70% the length of a 25.5 inch Touchsmart. So it seems the arm/Touchsmart ratio from the Black Eyed Peas video screengrab above is larger than mine – which could either mean body part dimension variations between humans OR that Touchsmart in the video is HUGE (Possibly a 28 or 32 inch model?).

Spot the HP logo!

In a not-so-recent promotional video of their S-Class Guard “everything-proof” luxury car, Mercedes used a lot of HP equipment – most noticeably a HP Tablet PC (I think it’s a black 2710p but I could be wrong), various large HP LCD display units and HP servers in the background.

The video itself is one of the most marvelous and one of the best product promotional videos by a company that I’ve seen to date. It’s sophisticated, it has some pretty ‘cool’ scenes in it (ie the high tech machinery and servers, firing several rounds and attempting to blow up the car) and the soundtrack (Bobblin Remix by DJ Riggy) accompanying the 5 minute long video clip is great. Most importantly, it conveys the message clearly and pushes the product features (run flat tires, traction stability control, bulletproof, bomb resistant, gas proof) to the crowd, all without telling them to buy anything.

Definitely something that companies from various industries could learn from. I’d love to see more of these kinda video ads around. Hint: Mercedes S-Class = Luxury, and Voodoo Envy 133 = Luxury Mercedes uses HP tablet pcs and servers, and you know it!

With Tony Stark using Dell and CSI using Apple (although I noticed a lot of HP stuff in their more recent seasons and episodes), it’s good to know that Mercedes uses HP!
